The Institute was firstly established in 1979 offering English classes and Religious Studies to students who were studying for GCE “O level” and adults who were desirous to gain knowledge in these subjects. Within a few years, as these courses became more and more popular, consideration was given to offering courses in theology. This was achieved in 1984 and in 1986 the theology courses were accredited by the University of Wales. This was a great achievement.

In 1997 the NTA courses in Christian Counselling were initiated. These were accredited by the University of Wales in 1998 and operated independently until 2007 when the two wings of studies were amalgamated into the Institute of Theology & Christian Counselling.
